Honorary Consul Susan Meyer

Greensfelder Attorney Susan Meyer has been appointed as Norway’s Honorary Consul for Illinois, assuming the new role on Dec. 1, 2019.

The role of Norway’s Honorary Consul includes assisting with consular affairs and helping to facilitate development of business, cultural, and educational relations between Norway and the U.S. In conjunction with Meyer’s appointment, Greensfelder’s Chicago office is designated by Norway’s Foreign Ministry as the Royal Norwegian Honorary Consulate.

In her practice, Ms. Meyer frequently advises companies on matters related to commerce between the U.S. and Scandinavia. She is a past president of the Chicago Chapter of the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce and is an active member of the Norwegian-American Defense and Homeland Security Industry Council (NADIC).

Please note that only the Embassy and Consulates General have full time staff and issue visas to Norway.  The Royal Norwegian Embassy is in Washington, DC, and Consulates General are in Houston, New York and San Francisco.

Honorary consuls are not career diplomats. They are usually citizens of the host country, where they live, work and pay taxes. They are designated by a foreign government to look after the affairs of its citizens.
